John Brooks Leslie

John B. Leslie was the father of Duretta Wolfhard (Leslie)
He married Mary Maud Leggate in November 1897 in Superior, Wisconsin and had 4 Children- Frances (Duretta), Alvin, Earle, Ralph and Mayme. Mayme died at the age of 24 in 1928 and J.B. and Mary Maude adopted her son, Bob Leslie.
J. B.’s parents were Jerry Leslie and Mary Ann Brooks.
Mary Ann Brooks’ father was Geo Brooks and her mother was Lady Mary Littlejohns. They were married in 1842
Mary Maude Leggate’s father was John (Jno). Leggate and her mother was Mary Bond
John B was a bill board paper hanger and won the World championship. He moved to Kitchener in 1912 to become partners with Harold and Ed Gould. The company was called Leslie Gould Advertising and is still in business as Gould Outdoor. For the complete history, visit- The Yesteryears 1902-1989



JB built the house in 1936 on a lot on the corner of Queen South and Highland Road in Kitchener. When JB died in 1945, his widow Mary Maude turned the house into a duplex and she lived downstairs, renting out the upstairs. Various family members rented it as their first home- William and his wife Eleanor, Leslie and her husband Bus, Bob and Helen Leslie, Leslie’s son Peter Fraser with his wife Rosemary, William’s son Peter and his wife Lynda.
When JB’s wife died, Henry F Wolfhard bought the house and continued to rent it to the family. After that, William Wolfhard and finally Peter Wolfhard owned the house until 1987








J.B. Leslie’s grandmother, Lady Mary Littlejohn came from Surry, England. She died in 1903 at the age of 88.
